Eco-Adventure Park Course Types

ArborTrek specializes in the development and management of several types of tours.

Canopy Tours

Overview: Generally two to two-and-half hours in length, canopy tours combine the thrill of soaring through the forest on zip lines and crossing wobbly bridges with presentations on local ecology, natural history, and local culture.  Tours are designed to be highly interactive and built to accommodate a diverse population.

Target Market: Families, Youth Groups, Adult Groups, Couples, Empty-Nesters, and Active Seniors

Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate

Required Assets

  • Property: 20 to 40 acres of mature forest with interesting topography. While courses can be built on near level ground, a canyon, ravine or weakness with 200 to 500 feet in elevation loss is preferred. Water features are preferred.
  • Facilities: Parking and facilities to manage 60-persons at any given time. Access to utilities required.
  • Trails and Access Road: Construction requires access to each of the anchor trees by foot path or nearby road.    It is preferable that the tour be able to start or end at the Welcome Center and parking area.

Zip Line Tours

Overview: Zip line tours include many of the same components of canopy tours but are often built in areas where suitable stands of trees are not available.   Tours focus instead on the exploration of interesting topography and geography, or just on the thrill of the ride.   A variety of guided models are available for zip line tours: some place a heavy focus on the interaction between client and guide; others focus primarily on the thrill of flying and high throughput.

Target Market: Families, Youth Groups, Adult Groups, Couples, Empty-Nesters, and Active Seniors

Difficulty Level: Easy to Moderate

Required Assets

  • Property: 20 to 40 acres of interesting topography to explore and good vistas. Since zip line tours often make use of structural supports other than trees, elevation changes can be more diverse than canopy tours.
  • Facilities: Parking and facilities to manage 60-persons at any given time. Access to utilities required.
  • Trails and Access Road: Construction requires reasonable access to each of the anchors by foot path or nearby road.  It is preferable that the tour be able to start or end at the Welcome Center and parking area.

Adventure Parks (a.k.a. Aerial Trekking)

Overview: A play off of the evolving ropes course in the United States and Aerial Trekking Parks of Europe, our Adventure Parks combine the security of a supervised and semi-guided experience with the thrill of travelling through the trees, climbing, rappelling, crossing wobbly bridges, swinging on ropes, traversing cargo nets, and sliding down cables. Courses are designed with families in mind. While challenges range from easy to extreme, all course areas are designed to accommodate users of every level of ability so that families and small groups can make the journey together.  In some cases, wooded areas are not available.  We also offer steel-based courses designed for pay-to-play purposes.  Courses can be themed to blend in or stand out.

Target Market: Adventurous Families, Youth Groups, Adult Groups, Couples, Empty-Nesters, and Active Seniors

Difficulty Level: Easy to Challenging

Required Assets:

  • Property: Adventure Parks can be built in a variety of settings. For tree courses, we recommend two to five acres of land with mature trees and interesting topography. Unlike canopy tours and zip line tours that rely heavily on grade, adventure parks prefer level to near level ground. Steel pole courses can be easily erected indoors or out and require a level 4” reinforced pad or footers to be poured.
  • Facilities: Parking and facilities to manage 60-persons at any given time. Access to utilities required.
  • Trails and Access Road: Construction requires access to each of the anchor trees by foot path or nearby road.  The Welcome Center and parking should be located in close proximity to the course area.
